According to the EPA’s own Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee, breathing air labeled “moderate” is actually unhealthy and harmful to your health.
In March 2008, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency changed its outdoor air quality standards. But, according to its own panel of scientists, the new standards are not strict enough to protect public health. The EPA scientists, along with other health and medical organizations, including the American Lung Association, are calling for stricter standards. What this means is that when the EPA tells us that air quality is “moderate,” it is actually unhealthy. For example, during the 2007 ozone season in New England, there were 54 days that the EPA said were unhealthy. If the stricter standards had been in place, that number would have jumped to 98.
